Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Tomás Paula Marques (Porto, Portugal. 1994) studied Directing and Cinematography at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School. Paula Marques photographed A rapariga de Berlim (2015) by Bruno Abib and directed the short film Sem Armas (2016), which premiered at IndieLisboa. Paula Marques’ graduation film Em caso de Fogo (2019) has travelled internationally through Europe, the Americas and Asia, having won the Orona Prize in Nest at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Since then, Paula Marques has postgraduated in Sociology with focus on Gender studies, also having worked in editing with directors like João Pedro Rodrigues, Cristiana Cruz Forte and Daniel Veloso.
The work of Paula Marques explores the characters’ difficulties and failures when coming to terms with their gender experience and sexual expectations, having recently explored the history of queer bodies in dissent. Paula Marques is currently finishing the short film Cabra cega while also developing a master’s project at the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola with a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship.
