Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The German director, Ina Weisse, is in San Sebastian to present her latest film The Audition which is competing in the Official Selection. It’s about a violin teacher, played by Nina Hoss, obsessed with a student who she ends up paying more attention to than to her own family. The director said that what she tried to do was to provide her actors with a protected space where they could feel free, and that having worked as an actress helped her because she knew how difficult it was to be in front of a camera and show what you’ve got inside yourself. Asked about her own musical experience, she said she had played the violin in an orchestra so she knew about the excruciating pressure involved in this environment.
As for the problems finding a musician who could also act she said she had been lucky to find Ilja Monti fairly quickly through an old piano teacher in Berlin. Both Nina Hoss and the director stressed that Monti, who plays the role of the student, was not only an incredible musician but was also an excellent actor.
