Having studied at the New York University Film School, on his return to Israel in 1974 he founded Belfilms Ltd, a company he managed until 1999 and for which he produced more than 150 films and television programmes, including feature films, documentaries, TV dramas and international co-productions. He was the associate producer of Beyond the Walls (Uri Barbash, 1984), Academy Award-nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. Since 1999, and for more than 20 years, he has been Executive Director of the Israel Film Fund, from which he has authorised the support and promotion of more than 300 feature-length films, both in Israel and internationally, among which are Oscar candidates and others to have won awards at major film festivals around the world.
In 2018, the Berlin Festival gave him its Berlinale Camera Award for his outstanding contribution to the film industry. He has been a Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France since 2011.
