Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Once again the Perlak section will be showing a selection of some of the best films of the year that have been critically acclaimed or have won awards at other international festivals, but have still not been released in Spain. The 17 pearls being screened this year include films by such established directors as Alfonso Cuarón with Roma, which won the Golden Lion at Venice; Jacques Audiard, who picked up the Best Director Award at Venice with The Sister Brothers, and Damien Chazelle, the director of the Oscar-winning La La Land, with First Man. The section also includes A Star is Born, Bradley Cooper’s debut as a director, in which he stars alongside Lady Gaga; Cold War, which earned Pawel Pawlikowski the Best Director Award at Cannes and the latest films by such renowned directors as Jia Zhangke, Jafar Panahi, Kirill Serebrennikov and Spike Lee. There will also be room for some of the very best animated films including work by Raul De la Fuente and Mamoru Hosada, and for up-and-coming talent like the Belgian director Lukas Dhont, who won the Caméra d’Or at Cannes with Girl.
