Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Virginia García del Pino belongs to the “new Spanish arthouse cinema” and combines her career as a director with teaching on the Master’s Degree in Documentary filmmaking at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.
A Fine Arts graduate, her production as a videoartist pointed her towards documentaries. Her work has a long international track record at festivals and contemporary art museums. She debuted as a director in 2004 with the medium-length Sí señora. In 2007 she received several awards for Lo que tú dices que soy, a film which has toured major European museums. Her first feature, El Jurado (2012) participated in the official selection at the FID Marseille, FIC Valdivia and Punto de Vista festivals, among others, and was screened at the MNCARS, IVAM and MUSAC museums. In 2013, the Márgenes and L’Alternativa festivals ran retrospectives of her work and in 2014 the Cineuropa Festival organised a focus on her. She has been a jury member at the Mar de Plata, Seville, In-Edit and L’Alternativa festivals. Her latest film, La 10ª carta (2014), premiered at the San Sebastian Festival, is a portrayal of hallowed moviemaker Basilio Martín Patino, made in collaboration with ICAA and Canal+, which was nominated for the José María Forqué Awards and has made the rounds of Spanish cinématèques and international festivals.
