Born in the UK in 1981, Isabel Stevens is a writer and curator. She is production editor at the British Film Institute's film magazine Sight & Sound, where she has worked since 2007. Before joining the BFI she was Managing Editor at the art magazine Contemporary.
She regularly writes for Sight & Sound and edited a recent special issue of the magazine called The Female Gaze, exploring overlooked films by female directors. She contributed the essay 'Hitchcock and Art' to the BFI's book 39 Steps to the Genius of Hitchcock and writes on cinema, photography, art and design for a number of publications including The Guardian, Aperture, the London Review of Books blog, Cahiers du Cinéma España, Apollo, World of Interiors and Eye.
In 2012 she curated an exhibition at the BFI of Satyajit Ray's film posters, and in 2014 curated the first UK exhibition of the film posters of German graphic artist Hans Hillmann.
