Moira was the title of the second film to be screened yesterday in the Official Section. It tells the story of a Georgian family who buy a boat named after the Goddess of fate to try and escape from poverty. Although they try to get ahead in life, unfortunately they fall into the hands of the Mafia.
The Georgian director, Levan Tutberidze, pointed out that his film was based on real events. “It’s a huge drama that we face here in Georgia that is causing deep divisions in our society. The film is about someone who struggles to hang on to certain values, but fate and life are merciless with him. My generation has grown up surrounded by people like him. I myself have got a lot of friends with a dark past. And he added, ”unfortunately criminals and the police often go hand in hand, just as they do in other countries.”
