Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Luciano Tovoli is a renowned Italian cinematographer who has worked with some of the greatest directors in the history of cinema, such as Antonioni, Scola, Buñuel, Ferreri, and Schroeder, Francis Veber or Brusati. He loves challenges and was honoured to accept to form part of the Official Section Jury, where he hopes to try and find something innovative and daring that will surprise him.
Tovoli was really looking forward to coming back to San Sebastián as it was here in 1984 that he presented the only film he has ever directed, The General of the Dead Army with Marcello Mastroianni, Anouk Aimée, Michel Piccoli and Sergio Catellito. “The Italian press discovered the film here and it got really good reviews. It was also well received by the international critics so that I have some really good memories of those days” Unfortunately it was never shown in Italy because the Italian distributor went bankrupt, which was so frustrating for him that it put him off ever directing again.
