Italian director, producer and scriptwriter, based in London. Born in 1957 in Rome. His film career started in 1983 by working as a unit runner in Roland Joffe’s The Killing Fields. He founded Redwave Films in 1993 and became an independent producer. As a producer, he had a huge success with The Full Monty, the film that was nominated for an Academy Award, won the European Film Award, and was named Best Film of 1997 by BAFTA. His directorial debut Machan, which he also produced, won the FEDIC and Label Europa Cinemas awards at the Venice Film Festival in 2008. His second feature film Still Life won the Orizzonti Award for Best Director at the Venice Festival in 2013 as well as numerous jury and audience awards in other film festivals.
