Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
“Sobriety, a hint of elegance and a few touches of poetry” will provide the recipe for this year’s opening ceremony which for the first time will be directed by Patxi Barco, the Basque theatre, film and television director. He thinks that film has the dual ability to turn us into children and make us critics, and to reflect this philosophy on stage, the set design for the ceremony will be based on the festival poster, full of primary colours and freshness, which reminds Barco of a fairground wheel.
There will be no shortage of celebrities from the world of cinema taking part in the gala with two Donostia Award winners – Annette Benning and Oliver Stone- and several old friends of the Festival, including directors Terry Gilliam, Hirokazu Kore-eda and actress Michelle Yeoh, all presenting their latest films.
Once again the Fipesci Award will be presented during the opening ceremony. This year it will go to director Abdellatif Keniche and producer Brahim Chioua for La vie d’Adele – Chapitre 1 &2.
