Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Born in 1974 in Czech Republic. He studied Law and graduated in Film Theory and History at Prague’s Charles University.
Since 2001, he has worked for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival as a member of the selection committee. He has programmed KVIFF’s documentary competition and curated tributes and retrospectives to Sam Peckinpah, John Huston and Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger, among others.
In 2010 Och was appointed artistic director of the Karlovy Vary IFF. He participates in the organization of the well-established Works in Progress panel (presentation of films in post-production) which, together with Pitch & Feedback event (Czech and Slovak film projects in development) has become the key industry event of the Karlovy Vary IFF.
Karel Och is a member of the European Film Academy, LUX prize selection committee as well as FIPRESCI, and has published articles on film festivals and reviews in dailies and magazines.
