Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The 59th edition of San Sebastian International Film Festival will include the seven titles selected for this year’s Zinemira section, dedicated to films chiefly produced in the Basque Country. The “PREMIERES” section will offer three new productions, while the “PANORAMA” will propose another four outstanding titles from the year’s production.
SERBITZU ZINEMIRA AWARD
All three unreleased films will contend for the Serbitzu Zinemira Saria Award, the aim of which is to contribute to development of the Basque film culture and industry. The prize carries €20,000, gross, for the producer or producers of the winning film. The Award is sponsored by Serbitzu Elkartea.
ZINEMIRA AWARD
The Basque Film Gala will take place at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre on September 21. We will screen Gregorio Muro’s short film Zeinek gehiago iraun and premiere the feature directed by Imanol Rayo, Bi anai. At the gala, producer Elías Querejeta will receive the Zinemira Award, recognising the career of a person to have made a particular mark on Basque film.
KIMUAK
The section will also include the selection of shorts corresponding to the Kimuak 2011 programme, an initiative by the Basque Government Department of Culture and Euskadiko Filmategia-Filmoteca Vasca created to shed light on the best Basque shorts of the year. This year’s Kimuak brings nine short films.
WORKS RESTORED BY THE BASQUE FILM LIBRARY
On the other hand, San Sebastian Festival will collaborate with the Euskadiko Filmategia-Filmoteca Vasca to exhibit restored works from the Basque Country film heritage. This year we will screen three documentaries by the filmmaker from Bizkaia, Gotzon Elortza, the first ever films to have been conceived and shot completely in the Basque language.
The Zinemira section is organised by San Sebastian Festival with the collaboration of the Basque Government Department of Culture, EITB, EPE/APV and IBAIA. It is also sponsored by Serbitzu Elkartea.
