Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
“What’s an actor and theatre director doing mixed up in a jury? That’s just what I was wondering myself,” Juan Diego Botto jokes, when asked about his new role as a member of the Horizontes Latinos Award jury. The actual truth is that he thought it was a fantastic idea to be here watching Latin American films and taking part in and contributing to something like the San Sebastián Festival. Apart from that, as he had always been on the other side, presenting films, he thought it might be fun to judge other people’s work. In any case he’s no stranger to the Festival, having been here on several occasions to premiere films he’s been in. Although he was born in Buenos Aires, he emigrated to Spain when he was very young and has mainly worked as an actor on this side of the Atlantic. However, he still has close professional links to Argentina and thinks that Argentine films in particular are going through a great period, with new directors, and fresh, really interesting stories that are always backed up by some magnificent actors.
