The director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo came to San Sebastián yesterday to present his third film Intruders, which was screened in the Official Section, out of competition. It is a disturbing fable about dark family secrets that is narrated in the form of two parallel stories in two different countries.
The Spanish director was backed up by nearly his entire cast, including Clive Owen and Carice Van Houten, at the press conference he gave after the screening where he explained how he had wanted to explore the importance of the family in the fantasy world of children.
“I was really interested in the idea of how parents transmit fear to their children. The ghosts we ee when we are small have a lot to do with the family. Fear is inherited.”The director himself confessed that his mother used to tell him dark secrets that ended up becoming nightmares.
However, Fresnadillo claimed that his film was not a horror film but was more a film about fear.
