The Korean film programmer,Yoo Un-Seong,works at the Jeonju International Film Festival, one of the most renowned film festivals in Asia, and is in San Sebastián to form part of the New Directors Jury.
He says that he’s really enjoying himself here and is impressed with the attitude of audiences which he describes as “really interested, positive and sincere.” He’s also impressed with how well the Festival is organised. His festival focuses on art-house, independent films and this year he invited José Luis Guerín and Lluis Galter to Jeonju where their films were well-received by the audience and he’d like to invite other Spanish directors this year.
When judging work by new directors, he looks for filmmakers who have a fresh, daring and adventurous mind. He also likes to see the films at public screenings because that way he can feel the audience’s response.
He also reveals that he has been very impressed with the Digital Shadows programme that’s being presented here this year, and feels that Chinese cinema has a very promising future, although he personally prefers contemporary Filipino independent films.
