Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Once again the Made in Spain section will be providing an overview of the very best Spanish
Films to have been released over the past year. This year fifteen films have been selected with the aim of bringing them to the attention of the international industry and press.
The section kicked off on the first day with Chema Rodriguez’s El abrazo de los peces, which tackles the problem of integrating the deaf and blind into society, and there was also a screening of Pablo Llorca’s El mundo que fue y el que es, which chronicles the life led by Communist Party activists in the harsh period after the Spanish Civil War, when the party was driven underground. The selection also includes the box-office hit Torrente 4 directed by and starring Santiago Segura, which will be screened in 3D, and the western Blackthorn about Butch Cassidy, starring Eduardo Noriega and Sam Shepard, which Mateo Gil has set in Bolivia. Finisterrae by Sergio Caballero, an adventure set on the Way of St James that is almost impossible to classify will also have pride of place in the selection.
Finding their way back to Donostia
Several films that have already been out on general release in Spain are being shown again during the Festival. These include Águila Roja by Jose Ramon Ayerra, a TV series transferred to the big screen; Balada triste de trompeta by Álex de la Iglesia, a winner at the Venice Festival; the comedy Primos by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo; the romantic comedy, No controles by Borja Cobeaga and No tengas miedo by Montxo Armendariz, which takes a look at child abuse.
An interesting group of documentaries will also be rounding off Made in Spain: La maleta mexicana by Trisha Ziff; ¿Quién fue Pilar Miró? by Diego Galán; the highly original Cataluña über alles by Ramon Termens; La mitad de Óscar by Manuel Martín Cuenca; and last but not least, the debut film by Jonás Trueba, the youngest of the Trueba brothers, Todas las canciones hablan de mí.
