Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Lucia Casani, who is here at the Festival to form part of the New Directors Jury, is the coordinator of the Culture Department at the La Casa Encendida Contemporary Cultural Centre in Madrid, where part of her job has involved providing a platform for the kind of minority films that have most problems getting screened. The Centre analysed the situation faced by non-commercial films and as they didn’t have to consider the restrictions usually imposed by
having to think about whether the cinema was going to be profitable or not, they launched a
programme including films that hadn’t found a distributor in Spain, as well as shorts, experimental cinema and video-art.
She is worried about the loss of concentration that the new formats of watching films has led to. “The cinema provides a space so that you can concentrate, and the problem with the new formats is the lack of concentration. The cinema allowed you to forget about these problems as for these two hours you can’t move from your seat.”
