A short time ago I happened upon the fact that the cause of our mother?s death was to have inhaled asbestos dust. The factory that made it stood only a short way from the house in which we lived. The discovery was an emotional blow leading me to travel from the very bottom of my heart to the Indian beaches on which they now break up the ships that no European wants to touch for fear of the asbestos they contain.

Mugaldekoak is set in the early 40s, when, on this side of the border, the wounds of the Civil War were still open and, on the other, they were living under occupation by the German Army. The tale revolves around the Comète Network, an initiative developed during World War II on the border with Navarre: the clandestine evacuation of British pilots brought down in enemy territory. The transfer started from inside the Germany Army lines to the UK, crossing the delicate passing place on the French/Spanish border by the classic contraband routes. This network was international in composition: British, French, Belgians and, above all, Basques. In this post-war setting we will also learn tales surrounding the private lives of a people and their families: love, hate, loyalty, betrayal, secrets, lies, confessions, discoveries...

The artists in the ?Despertar los sentidos? dance group had a very special idea: to organise a performance on Oriñón beach. It wasn?t an easy challenge as they?d never worked outdoors on their choreographies before. A few days before the big event, a few of the group members arrive in the village to settle in. On the one hand, they rehearse the performance, painstakingly, on the beach. And they go about obtaining the necessary permits. And they overcome the technical difficulties arising along the way. On the other hand, they also make the most of the occasion to have a fabulous seaside holiday with their friends. Two cameras follow their entire stay, looking at coexistence within the group, everything that happens between them and with the people around them... And these same cameras are there on the day of the show to witness the success or failure of this curious initiative.

Looking backwards, from the distance of time, this documentary constitutes the wake left by the boat in the sea. The coexistence of that 2007 alongside the rowers from Zumaia. At each training session, each competition... TTAUP, TTAUP! The beating of the oars.
