Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Eight films, five of which are being screened for the first time, make up the programme for this year’s Zinemira-Basque Film Showcase, which is the section that the Festival devotes to the best Basque films of the year. It is organised by the Film Festival and the Basque Ministry of Culture and sponsored by Basque Public television.
The popular actor Alex Angulo, best known internationally for his role in Alex de la Iglesia’s Dia de la Bestia, will be receiving the Zinemira Award that is presented each year to celebrate the career of a Basque film personality in a special ceremony at the Basque Film Gala.
In his last year as Director of the Festival, Mikel Olaciregui said he was pleased to see that this section had established itself as he felt that all festivals should provide a platform for films from the place that they were held in. He also hoped that in the near future there would be more Basque films screened in the Official Section and in Zabaltegi.
