Synopsis
During the Korean War, nurse Lt. Ruth McGara is assigned to a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital unit near the front line. There she meets and falls in love with Major Jed Webbe, one of the unit's surgeons and a heavy drinker who only seems interested in casual relations. Jed's skill as a surgeon impresses Ruth and the couple gradually strike up a relationship. During a difficult evacuation they suffer a guerrilla attack and the men have to carry the wounded in their arms.
