Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The film Hadewijch takes its title from a 13th century Dutchmystic writer, Hadewijch of Antwerp, who advocated a direct experience of God without ministers or intermediaries on Earth. It tells the story of Celine, an upper-class Parisian, who is expelled from a convent because of her excessive religious fervour. Its director, Bruno Dumont said that it was about the passage from faith to fanaticism: “I wonder how these young people from all over the world manage to transform love of God into extreme violence. I think that love is the alter ego of violence, and I ask myself how they can carry out terrorist outrages in the name of God.”Dumont stresses that he doesn’t aim in any way whatsoever to blame God for violence. However, although he claims to respect the Church, he doesn’t believe in God at all. “In my house, the Bible is alongside Shakespeare’s plays; it’s a poem. The word of God needs to be adapted to a more modern kind of spirituality.”
Although the film has no sex scenes at all, not even a hug or a kiss, it is extremely sensual: “I think it is the most erotic film I have made.”
