Desperados on the Block is Tomasz Emil Rudzik’s first film and tells the story of three foreign students who live in a residence hall in Munich. They are based on real-life characters that the director met during the period he himself lived in similar circumstances. After a few months he realised that people were lonely and didn’t mix at all and they only place they ever come across each other was in the lift. It took him four years to finish off the film. He had originally thought that he needed to travel to enrich his experiences but he realised that he didn’t even need to leave his own block; all he needed was the lift to find these extraordinarily exciting stories. After it has been screened here in San Sebastián, the film will be shown at other international festivals, for example in Sao Paulo.
Norteado, another film in Zabaltegi New Directors
The director Rigoberto Perezcano and the actresses Sonia Couoh and Alicia Laguna and producer Edgar San Juan were in San Sebastián to present their film Norteado yesterday at the Zabaltegi get-togethers. They described how life began to reflect art during shooting their film (which deals with illegal emigration to the US), as at one stage they raised the suspicions of the American border patrol who sent out a helicopter to investigate.
