Paul Thomas Anderson received the Fipresci Grand Prix yesterday from Amos Gitai for best film of the year for There will be blood, eight years after he won the same award for Magnolia. Well received by both public and critics, the film received, among other awards, three Oscars. The director said that it was wonderful to receive awards and confessed that when he was young he discovered several films thanks to film critics. “When a critic does his job well he really helps people. I have a great relationship with them. They have always been good to me".
Anderson was convinced right from the start that Daniel Day-Lewis would be just perfect for the leading role. “I didn’t think about anyone else,” he said. He also admitted that John Huston’s Treasure of the Sierra Madre had been a big help and inspiration qhen it came to shooting There will be blood.
