Director Rian Johnson acknowledged at the press conference he gave after the screening of his film The Brothers Bloom that he had aimed to make a comedy that was as zany as the ones that the Marx Brothers used to make. He said that he admired the work of directors like Terry Gilliam and Emir Kusturica in which unexpected things happen and then in the end everything comes together and makes sense".
As for working with stars like Adrian Brody and Mark Ruffalo, he confessed that he was a bit intimidated at first, “but everything turned out just fine: they’re great guys without any ego problems and we were just like kids playing in the sand; we got to travel, enjoy ourselves and we had a great time".
