Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Lebanese director Nadine Labaki presented her first fulllength film Caramel here at Zabaltegi last year where it won the TCM Audience award and the Youth Award. A year later she has now returned as an Official Section juror and is really delighted to be working alongside such well established directors and experienced professionals. It’s something really amazing for her to be here after making just one feature film alongside people with a huge body of work behind them. “It’s a dream come true.” She’s currently working on the script for her second film which she hopes to finish before her child is born in January, (she’s pregnant), but everything is happening so fast in her life at the moment that she can’t say for sure what will happen in the near future. It’ll be set in Lebanon as she really feels the need to shoot films in her own country and language. She thinks that filmmakers should be more aware of the power that cinema has and how a film can change things. “Although we can’t change society, we can make people think".
However she’s not a filmmaker who likes to make complicated films that need a lot of analysis. She just follows her heart and her instinct, just like she does in her own life.
