For the fifth year running, the International Film School Meeting will serve as a venue for the dynamic exchanging of audiovisual experiences and apprenticeship at San Sebastian International Film Festival.
Madrid, Barcelona, Andoain, Zaragoza and Valencia, France (Paris, Toulouse), Germany, Italy, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico... A total of 18 centres will be represented this year.
The Meeting includes a wide range of educational initiatives, a world premiere of the works produced at the Atelier/Masterclass, prior to their broadcasting by the ARTE network, or an educational experience from Tarifa implicating both shores of the Strait of Gibralter permitting the Meetings to connect with Made in Spain through Pobladores, a documentary on immigration which will be distributed in DVD format to the Spanish institutes.
And, for the first time, a debate between film and acting students, orchestrated by the actress Assumpta Serna, Chairwoman of First Team, in the presence of guest actors and actresses at the Festival.
Youngsters interested in learning more about film technique and language have the chance to present a selection of their training works within the framework of one of the most important international competitions. These works can be commented upon at lively sessions open to the general public and Festival guests, similarly attended by their teachers, who can also explain the pedagogical principles of their centres.
The Festival will apply selection criteria placing this Meeting on a par with the other sections: both the Sales Office and the Film Library open their doors to the projects proposed by the schools and, to award a prize to one of the selected works, a specific jury is put together consisting of students from the participating schools chaired this year by the French actor and director, Éric Caravaca. The jury shall award the Panavision Award, comprising 4 weeks rental of a complete camera package Sony Z1 HDV or a voucher worth €10,000 for the rental of any kind of Panavision material for the winning director.
These are only some of the incentives to be found at the V International Film School Meeting at which there will be all sorts of other surprises on 28th and 29th September at the Principe Cinemas.

Born in 1970 in Rennes, he studied dramatic art in Paris and New York. He started his career in theatre, where he has performed in works by Brecht, Beckett, Molière, Artaud, Marivaux and Chekhov, among other great playwrights. His first film part was in Diane Bertrand’s Un samedi sur la Terre (1996), which participated in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. He landed his first big part in C’est quoi la vie? (What’s Life?, 1999) The film won the Golden Shell and Silver Shell for Best Actor (Jacques Dufilho) at San Sebastian Festival in 1999. Éric Caravaca won the César for Most Promising Actor in 2000. By then a prestigious actor, Caravaca was nominated as Best Actor at the 2001 César awards for François Dupeyron’s La chambre des officiers (Officer’s Ward, 2000), screened as part of Zabaltegi at San Sebastian. He subsequently starred in Patrick Chéreau’s Son frère (His Brother, 2002), Silver Bear at Berlin; François Dupeyron’s Inguélézi (Clandestine, 2003), which participated in the San Sebastian Official Selection, Lucas Belvaux’ La raison du plus faible (2005), Jérôme Bonnell’s J’attends quelqu’un (2006), Laurent Herbier’s Mon Colonel (2006), and Catherine Corsini’s Les ambitieux (2006). Éric Caravaca has also directed a film, Le passager (2004), selected for the Critics’ Week at Venice Festival in which he starred alongside Julie Depardieu. |
We take pleasure in congratulating all of the participants OF the V. International Film School Meeting and applaud this initiative taken by San Sebastian Festival and its organisers.
pays very special attention to film schools, to educational programmes and to the film students who will dedicate their lives to the 7th Art in all the countries where film productions exist.
Each film is different and has its own unique model.
The cameras used by professionals have to evolve and must always be able to adapt to all situations, which are often extreme when filming.
This is achieved by means of close and continuous contact with all image creators.
And this contact must kick off on the very first day of a professional career.
This interaction and the renowned quality and prestige of cameras and lenses are the secrets to's success in dealing with in the best in the film industry for over 50 years.
Prior to being able to shoot his or her first film, each filmmaker has to tackle a long and difficult road.
That’s why we’re pleased to give our award for the best student filmmaker in competition at this Meeting. The award is a voucher for camera rental, intended to facilitate their first steps in the world of cinema.
In advance, our heartfelt congratulations.
