Englishman Christopher Hughes gets caught in the Russian Revolution while working in Georgia as a telegraph operator. Before long, he comes into conflict with Nestor, the local leader, and is thrown out of the community by it's inhabitants. He cannot leave, however, without his love, Ana, Nestor's sister and so takes refuge at the foot of a telegraph post to wait for her.
Nestor and Christopher reconcile things over time, but one day they are both found murdered.
