In the sixteenth century, the Knights of the Order of Malta gave Charles I of Spain and V of Germany the statuette of a solid gold hawk encrusted with precious stones. It was a sign of gratitude for certain prerogatives that the monarch had granted them. However, the jewel never reached the Emperor, as the galley that transported it was assaulted by pirates. Four hundred years later, private detective Sam Spade and his partner Archer accept the assignment of a young woman who wants to find her sister, who has disappeared with an unscrupulous man.
