In a Bajío village of the early twentieth century, José Luis, son of the landowner Don Francisco, marries Esperanza, a beautiful and humble peasant, in secret. Disgusted by the wedding and because his son has become a revolutionary, Don Francisco disinherits José Luis and kicks him out of his house. After the triumph of the revolution, the couple lives happily until José Luis finds himself forced to face a couple of false revolutionaries who have kidnapped Esperanza and a young son.
