Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The French filmmaker Claire Denis, one of the most distinctive and acclaimed voices in contemporary cinema, will take part in this conversation at the San Sebastián Festival. The session will focus on her extensive career, marked by seminal works, as well as on her latest film, Le Cri des Gardes, which is competing this year in the Official Selection. It will be an opportunity to gain insight into her vision of cinema and the way she has built such a personal and influential body of work.
Claire Denis (Paris, 1946) competed in Cannes with her debut feature film, Chocolat (1988). In 1996 she won the Golden Leopard ain Locarno for Nenette et Boni / Nenette and Boni, followed amongst others by Beau travail (1999), Trouble Every Day (2001) and 35 rhums / 35 Shots of Rum (2009). She competed in Venice with L'intrus / The Intruder (2004) and White Material (2010), later returning to Cannes with Les salauds (2013), presented in Un Certain Regard, and Un beau soleil interieur (2017), in the Quinzaine des cinéastes. In 2018 she competed with High Life in San Sebastián, where she won the FIPRESCI Prize. In 2022 she bagged the Grand Prix at the Festival de Cannes with Stars at Noon and the Silver Shell for Best Director in Berlin with Avec amour et acharnement / Both Sides of the Blade (Donostia Award Screenings).
