Set in 1987, Precious is the story of Claireece “Precious” Jones, a 16-year old girl born and raised in a world you would wish on nobody. She’s pregnant for the second time with her absent father’s child; at home she’s tyrannically ruled by a bitter mother who keeps her imprisoned both emotionally and physically. Her school is out-and-out chaos, and she’s about to complete her secondary school studies with good marks and an unbelievable secret: she can’t read or write.
