Based on the true story of Thailand’s famed transvestite kickboxer Parinya Charoenphol (affectionately known in Thailand as Nong Toom), Beautiful Boxer narrates his infancy, adolescence and young adulthood. Ever since he was a child, Nong Toom believed he was a girl trapped in a boy’s body, setting out to master the most masculine and lethal sport of Muay Thai (kickboxing), involving the use of both fists and legs, to earn a living and achieve his greatest dream: to become a woman.

Recognized theatre director and founder of ACTION Theatre, one of the main theatre companies in Singapore, Ekachai Uekrongtham has directed and produced numerous theatre works and musical comedies in Singapore, China, Malasia, Thailand and the USA (Chang & Eng, Viva Viagra!, Mail Order Brides & Other Oriental Takeaways, Confessions of Three Unmarried Women). He has also directed the Creation and Development Department at GMM Pictures, the film branch of Thailand’s largest entertainment conglomerate. Beautiful Boxer is his feature film debut.
