This morning Greenpeace activists displayed a banner at La Concha Beach (San Sebastián, Spain) with the following slogan “Por un medio ambiente de cine” (“For a Picture Perfect Environment”). For the environmental organization this action marks the starting point of a week full of cinematic activism at the San Sebastián Film Festival; a week that will close off with the presentation of theLurra Award (Earth In Basque language) to the San Sebastián Film Festival movie which best symbolizes environmental protection and peace.
Seven films are nominated
Today Greenpeace announced theseven nominees to the Lurra Award. They are:
Thejury members to select the winning film are actress Bárbara Goenaga, producer and director Álvaro Longoria, writer and journalist Carlos del Amor, and reporter and Greenpeace Communication Director Laura Pérez.
An award ceremony to celebrate show business and activism
September 25th will be the Lurra Award Ceremony; a very special night where show business and activism will come together. There will be movie stars and climbers; spotlights and zodiacs; long-train dresses and activists’ overalls; clutches and banners. Activists can be found in all walks of life. Yes, even in show business.
The award gala will be conducted by Marta Belenguer and Elena Anaya will present the Lurra Award. During the gala actors and actresses the likes of Ricardo Darín, Elena Anaya, Lucía Jiménez, Bárbara Goenaga, Gorka Otxoa and Carlos Bardem will become activists for a day, riding zodiacs, hanging from harnesses, and playing their part for the environment instead of in a movie.

Public event: “Act” to protect the environment
Do you want to be a Greenpeace activist for a day? Do you want to ride a zodiac, climb a platform or protect our forests? You can on September 23rd. That day, on Zuloaga Square in San Sebastian, Greenpeace will set up a movie set to recreate some of its renowned actions.
Those who join us can choose among different scenarios and protect the cause they feel most strong about. Our “activist for a day” will receive a paper and digital picture of their adventure.
The accomplishment of this activity will depend on the meteorological conditions.
