Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Loreak (Flowers), by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga, which competed in the Official Selection at the 62nd San Sebastian Festival, will represent Spain at the Oscars®.
Another ten films presented at the 62nd and 63rd editions of the Festival have also been pre-selected to represent their countries at the Oscar® Awards.
Félix et Meira / Felix and Meira, by Maxime Giroux (Canada) competed in the Official Selection in 2014, while in 2015, Moira, by Levan Tutberidze (Georgia), had its world premiere in San Sebastian.
Modris, by Juris Kursietis (Latvia) landed a Special Mention from the Kutxabank-New Directors Award Jury in 2014.
Horizontes Latinos saw the participation of 600 Millas (600 Miles), by Gabriel Ripstein (Mexico), having carried off the Best First Feature Award in the Panorama Section at Berlin Festival, El abrazo de la serpiente (Embrace of the Serpent), by Ciro Guerra (Colombia), presented at the Cannes Festival Director’s Fortnight, El Club (The Club), by Pablo Larrain (Chile), Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin Festival, and Ixcanul, by Jayro Bustamante (Guatemala), Alfred Bauer Award at the Berlin Festival following its participation in Films in Progress 26.
The Pearls also competing to earn a nomination for an Oscar® are El Clan (The Clan), by Pablo Trapero (Argentina), Silver Lion for Best Director in Venice; Nie Yinniang / The Assassin by Hou Hsiao-hsien (Taiwan), Best Director Award at Cannes, and Saul Fia / Son of Saul, by László Nemes (Hungary), Grand Prix du Jury at the Cannes Festival.
