Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The list of nominees has been unveiled for the II PLATINO Ibero-American Film Awards, promoted by the Audiovisual Producers’ Rights Management Association (EGEDA) and the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers (FIPCA). Among the list of candidates, several of the favourites are titles presented in different sections at the last two editions of the San Sebastian Festival.
La isla mínima, premiered in the Official Selection of the 62nd edition and winner of the best actor award for Javier Gutiérrez and best cinematography for Álex Catalán, competes for awards in 9 categories: best Ibero-American fiction, best director (Alberto Rodríguez), best original score (Julio de la Rosa), best screenplay (Rafael Cobos, Alberto Rodríguez), best editing (José M.G. Moyano), best art direction (Pepe Domínguez), best cinematography (Alex Catalán) and best sound direction (Daniel de Zayas, Pelayo Gutierréz, Nacho Royo-Villanova).
Pelo malo, winner of the Golden Shell at the 61st edition is nominated in 8 categories: best Ibero-American fiction, best director (Mariana Rondón), best actress (Samantha Castillo), best screenplay (Mariana Rondón), best editing (Marité Ugas), best art direction (Matías Tikas), best cinematography (Micaela Cajahuaringa) and best sound direction (Lena Esquenazi, John Figueroa).
Other important Ibero-American titles screened in the Horizontes Latinos section will compete for this year’s awards: O lobo atrás da porta, winner of the Horizontes Award at the 61st edition, sees Leandra Leal nominated for best actress, and Ciencias naturales, winner of a Horizontes Award special mention at the last edition, is nominated for best first Ibero-American fiction.
Furthermore, another four films presented at the last edition have also been nominated: the documentary Paco de Lucía. La búsqueda, by Francisco Sánchez Varela, presented in the Zabaltegi section, competes alongside Wim Wenders’ The Salt of the Earth (Audience Award in the last San Sebastian Festival) for best documentary; Benicio del Toro, Donostia Award in 2014, competes in the best actor category for Escobar: Paradise Lost, presented in the Pearls section; and Dixie y la rebelión zombi is among the candidates for best animated feature.
Lastly, another of the great favourites in this edition of the Platino Awards is Relatos salvajes (Audience Award to the European film in 62nd edition), a film by Damián Szifrón which had its Spanish premiere in the Pearls section, following its screening at the Cannes Festival and which has bagged 10 nominations: best Ibero-American fiction, best director, best actor, best actress, best original score, best screenplay, best editing, best art direction, best cinematographer and best sound direction.
The Ibero-American film awards will be presented for the second time on July 18, in Marbella (Spain).
