Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de España has announced the nominations for the 29th edition of the Goya Awards, to be decided on February 7. Six titles presented at the last Festival concentrate the majority of the nominations in different categories.
The title to have bagged most nominations is La isla mínima, premiered in the Official Selection and winner of the Best Actor Award for Javier Gutiérrez and Best Cinematography for Álex Catalán. The film now competes for awards in 17 categories: best film, best director (Alberto Rodríguez), best actor (Raúl Arévalo and Javier Gutiérrez), best supporting actor (Antonio de la Torre), best supporting actress (Mercedes León), best new actress (Nerea Barros), best original screenplay, best original score, best production supervision, best editing, best costume design, best sound, best cinematography, best art direction, best makeup and/or hairstyle and best special effects.
The winner of the Golden Shell and Best Director Award at the 62nd Festival, Magical Girl, for its part, lands seven nominations: best film, best director (Carlos Vermut), best actor (Luis Bermejo), best actress (Bárbara Lennie), best supporting actor (José Sacristán), best new actor (Israel Elejalde) and best original screenplay.
The other two Spanish films to have competed in the Official Selection are also potentials for the Goya Awards: Loreak (Flowers) with two nominations (best film and best original music), and Autómata with four (best cinematography, best costume design, best sound and best art direction).
Two documentaries premiered in the Zabaltegi section are nominated for the best documentary feature film: El último adiós de Bette Davis, by Pedro González Bermúdez, and Paco de Lucía. La búsqueda, by Francisco Sánchez Varela, the latter of which is also nominated in the best new director and best editing categories.
The film by Ricardo Ramón and Beñat Beitia Dixie eta matxinada zonbia (Dixie and the Zombie Rebellion), premiered in the Velodrome at the last edition of the Festival, competes for the best animated film Goya.
Another of the hot favourites this year at the Goya Awards is Relatos salvajes (Wild Tales), the film by Damián Szifrón which following its screening at the Cannes Festival had its Spanish premiere in the Pearls section, where it received the Audicence Award for Best European Film, and which has been acknowledged with nine nominations: best film, best Spanish language foreign film, best director, best actor (Ricardo Darín), best original screenplay, best original score, best production supervision, best editing and best makeup and/or hairstyle.
In addition, the winning film of the Audience Award at the 62nd edition, The Salt of the Earth, by Wim Wenders, is one of the candidates for the best European film award.
