GEHITU, the Basque Association of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transexuals, and, on behalf of Gehitu, the Sebastiane Award’s Jury –made up of the following members: Joseba Errekalde, Juanjo Arin, Nicolás Subirán, Igor Blanco, Joaquín Garrido, and chaired by Javi Irigoien– has decided to grant the SEBASTIANE 2014 award to following film:
“UNE NOUVELLE AMIE” directed by FRANÇOIS OZON
Ozone proposes a game apparently frivolous, but that calls into question the labels and rols of masculinity and femininity. The jury appreciates the contribution of this film to move towards a personal liberation, that could reaffirm the identity of every person.
François Ozon claimes with this film that all children are entitled to have their families recognized on the basis of the same respect, regardless of who are their families made up of.
The jury is not insensitive to the situation of LGBT families in France, who, as in many other countries, are still subject to discrimination and social controversy.
The Jury would like to thank the Festival Selection Committee for the choice of LGTB themed films in the 62th edition.
