An impressive portrait of the Basque people agains the backdrop of the bombing of Gernika. Three ederly women relate their personal memories of this tragedy while attending a wedding banquet in a cider-house. They recall the massacre of innocent farmers, the death of a young man on the day before his wedding, ad the bloody repression of a birhtday party. Part drama, part documentary, this film not only returns to the destruction of Gernika fifty years ago, but also reveals what the city means to the Basques today.

This film weaves together the stories of three couples which together form a sample of the sifferente social classes existing in Taipei, Taiwan: a socially marginal young woman from a modest family and a well-to-do photographer; a writer who longs for independence and a doctor who thinks only of racing; a possesive mother and her imprisoned daugther, Suzanne, who copes with her boredom by tepephoning everyone she can think of. A double murder, real or dreamed, complicates the situation.
